POLICE stopped dozens of vehicles on a busy Renfrewshire road as part of a clampdown on crime.
The operation took place on the A737, near Lochwinnoch, in the early hours of this morning.
Around 40 vehicles were targeted by officers next to the Roadhead Roundabout.
Searches were carried out and a number of offences were detected.
These included driving without valid insurance.
Inspector Allan O’Hare, head of community policing for Renfrewshire, said: “It is commonplace for criminals to use the roads network at night to travel and commit crime in our areas and neighbouring areas and we need to know who is out and about through the night.
“Previously, we have had housebreakings and theft of motor vehicles and the A737 has been identified as a commonly used 'escape' route.
“These roadblocks and future ones we have planned all tie in with our local policing strategy to reduce casualties and crime on our roads, tackle acquisitive crime and tackle serious and organised crime groups.”
