POLICE have appealed for information after thieves stole thousands of pounds worth of power tools by drilling a large hole in the side of a storage container.

The theft took place last week on the A737 road, between Howwood and Lochwinnoch, where gas distribution firm SGN is carrying out work, sometime between 4.30pm on Thursday and 7am on Friday.

Police said electoral tools worth an estimated total of £15,000 had been taken from the container.

It is believed that an electric drill or similar tool was used to create a hole in the metal container that was large enough for the thieves to gain access and steal the loot.

Police also think the crooks used a vehicle to transport the stolen goods.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the area around the time of the incident is asked to call 101.
