THE ROLY MO set out with one goal in mind for their first EP.

They knew it had to capture their gut-busting live sound and it had to reach out to all those who seeking raw high-energy thrills.

"The sound we were going for was heavy and loud," frontman Joe Morton said.

"We just wanted to make massive songs that people could be buzzing about – just straight down the middle bangers."

The uncompromising Glasgow-based quartet unveiled their debut EP TRM on September 11 via independent label 7 West Music.

With a mission to deliver their true-to-life sound, they collaborated with Chris Marshall and Johnny Madden during the process.

They had made previous singles Fooled By You and Cuttin' About in the same studio and were gearing up for more of the same.

The band describe the finished six-track EP as "our way of expressing thoughts on our day to day life, from feelings of lust, loss and addictions - this is us, young and reckless".

TRM - TRACK BY TRACK (by frontman Joe Morton)

She's so Hot

We feel this song is us doing our best to go back to the roots of a loud, garage-like punk song with lyrics people can connect to. It's pretty much about seeing someone regularly or even for a split second when you're out at the weekend and thinking: "Oft". We decided to open the EP with this song because we have always opened live shows with it. We also all shout "hey" at the start of it, so I guess it works.

Diamond Doll

The second track on the EP is diamond doll which, funnily enough, we always have second in the set – we like to go straight into that drum beat after our opener when playing live. The song is about a stripper who's going far beyond what her job entails just for the extra cash. It doesn't come from personal experience, to be honest, it's just a made-up story. We tried to mix it up & capture the nightclub sound in the song just take the EP to a different place.

Count to 10

Count to 10 is basically a song about loss, whether it be loss in a relationship, loss of a close friend or even a family member kicking the bucket – it can mean whatever. We're sure people can relate to this as it's something we all face at some point. Once I wrote the song everyone in the band clicked with it and we played it pretty much the same as it is right now. I hope we make everyone cry.

Stuck in a Rut

This is probably the heaviest song on the record and will give you an opportunity to channel those tears from the previous track into a blinding rage. It's all about going nuts over being skint, jobless and in need of a new routine... Again, we've all been there. Its fast pace and its high energy makes it a live favourite for both us and the crowd, so we always suggest you play it loud for full effect.

I'll Be Happy When You Die

For this track we pretty much focused purely on the music and structure; I've had it for a while and the lyrics have changed that much that I ended up using words that sounded cool. At the end of the day, songs always have some kind of meaning buried in them. I guess there's hints of an over exaggerated anger towards someone (obviously) and the paranoid state of mind about the state I'd get myself into on a night out.

Control Yourself

We finish TRM on this track because it's very simple and catchy; I would imagine people can relate to it. It makes me feel sad, but at the same time happy because it's good to get a nice song out of a bad situation. This is a personal favourite of mine as I feel I've given myself the best advice I could receive, but never seem to put into practice... I'll never learn.

The Roly Mo are Joe Morton (vocals, guitar), Jack Livingstone (guitar), Andrew Noble (bass) and Lewis Jaoui (drums).
