STEVEN Gerrard last night played down the touchline bust-up with legendary Galatasaray manager Fatih Terim towards the end of Rangers' stunning Europa League play-off win last night.

Gerrard and Terim exchanged angry words as Ryan Jack prepared to come on for Ianis Hagi at Ibrox and spoke after the final whistle.

However, the former Liverpool and England midfielder insisted his admiration for his counterpart was undiminished afterwards.

“It’s important for me to stress I have nothing but respect for the Galatasaray coach, I have done for many years," he said. "That will never change.

“There were a lot of emotions on the side for both benches, which is pretty normal. There was a lot at stake for them and a lot at stake for us.

“Galatasaray were still the favourites, they have good players and more experience than my team in Europe.

“That made it ever so special for my players because they turned up as underdogs and beat a fantastic team. I’m so proud of them."
