A grieving family has slammed online trolls for trying to raise funds in their name.

Kieran Paul Murray was found seriously injured on Wednesday night in East Dunbartonshire but tragically died in hospital on Friday morning.

The relatives of the 23-year-old have now hit out at a scam profile asking for donations in his name.

Ryan Murray wrote: "Cannot believe I need to do this.

"This is a fake profile, asking for people to donate to DonorBox for my little brother.

"This is a scam, please report if you see it."

The fake profile is thought to be going under the name Mary Murray.

Ellen Thomlinson added: "Following a recent, sudden family bereavement some scumbag has set up a fake Go Fund Me page for Kieran Murray.

"This has nothing to do with our family!!! Please do not donate...

"They are using the name Mary Murray. Please spread the word this had NOTHING to do with our family."

He had been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and was then transferred to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Cops said it was not known how he came to be lying on the road, on the outskirts of Glasgow, in critical condition.

They have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Gillian Grant, from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Teams said: “Kieran’s family are absolutely heartbroken and it is vital that we find out what happened to him.

“At this time it is unclear how he came to be lying seriously injured on Balmore Road and detectives are investigating a number of lines of enquiry.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area of Balmore Road on Wednesday night and noticed anything which could be of significance to our investigation to please get in touch.

"I would also urge motorists with dash-cams who were in the vicinity to check their footage in case they have captured anything of importance."

She added: "I know that there will be people out there with information about what happened to Kieran and I would appeal to them to do the right thing and speak to the police. A young man has lost his life, leaving his family utterly devastated and we must find answers for them.
