THE outgoing MSP for Glasgow Kelvin has thrown her weight behind a potential successor to become the SNP’s candidate in the area.

Sandra White, who has represented the West End constituency for nearly a decade, backed Kaukab Stewart as her successor to fight in the Holyrood election.

Ms White said: “Kaukab has been a stalwart in the pursuit of independence along with myself and many others long before the inception of the Scottish Parliament and I can tell you in those days that was no mean feat.”

If elected, Ms Kaukab would become the first woman of colour in the Scottish parliament’s history.

She said: "There will never be another Sandra but with the support of local members, I believe that I can build on her good work and give the people of Glasgow Kelvin the continued strong representation that they deserve both within the constituency and in Holyrood."
