I HAVE to sympathise with your writer who wrote that he had been refused membership of a Glasgow Life Gym.

I am a member of Glasgow Club and, when I heard they were opening, went up to my local gym and booked my usual easy exercise class. All seven of us turned up, but on leaving we were told the only way to book another class was to use the APP or phone in – no bookings were being taken over the counter. I duly phoned but was told that since I did not pay by direct debit no booking could be made.

Hopefully over the next two weeks when all classes have been cancelled they can get their act together and come up with a system that is less discriminatory. One thing is for sure: Covid has kicked logic and common sense out the window. Hope Springs Eternal.

DISGRACED MP Margaret Ferrier refuses to resign and will continue to do so for as long as she can. Thankfully she will not be able to hang on to her £82,000 salary until the General Election in 2024 because there is a process whereby an MP can be recalled.

Most cases of recall are triggered by wrongdoing by an elected individual or perceived unsuitability for office. If the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards suspends her from the Commons for two weeks a by-election could be called if 10% of her constituents sign a recall petition.

This happened to disgraced Peterburgh MP Fiona Onasanya in 2019. The Recall of MPs Act 2015 came into force in March 2016 but the Scottish Parliament refused to introduce a similar act for Scotland’s MSPs which had it been implemented would have seen Derek Mackay deselected and the Scottish taxpayer not burdened with a cost of over £80,000.

IT has been reported that if Margaret Ferrier, the SNP member for Rutherglen and West Hamilton, resigns or is forced to resign over her serious breach of lockdown, George Galloway (left) – the former firebrand Labour MP – will enter the contest for the seat.

Love him or hate him, George is a skilful and eloquent political debater, which he proved when in 2005 he challenged a committee of senior American senators in the senate over the oil-for-food scandal. Therefore if elected he would be an ongoing thorn in the side of Nicola Sturgeon and her government of misfits.
