A THUG who knocked his vulnerable lover unconscious amid claims she attempted to assault his mother was jailed for 15 months on Tuesday.

Alexander McLaughlin, 39, turned on the woman at her flat in Glasgow’s Scotstoun in May this year.

McLaughlin jumped through a window to pounce on her before initially making comments about money.

Police officers later discovered his blood-soaked victim motionless on the ground.

McLaughlin, from Clydebank, stated after his arrest that the woman earlier tried to attacked his mother.

McLaughlin was locked up after pleading guilty to the assault to the woman’s severe injury.

Sheriff Johanna Johnston QC also imposed a nine-month non-harassment order on McLaughlin against the woman upon his release.

The court heard two neighbours witnessed McLaughlin leap in through the woman’s ground floor window on Earl Street.

Loud banging and smashing were heard before Miss Andrew was spotted with blood on her face.

Prosecutor Hannah Terrance said: “The neighbours noted the accused shouting and swearing about money.”

Officers arrived to see the property in disarray and the woman lying on the ground.

Miss Terrance added: “Her face, arms and top were seen to be covered in fresh blood.

“Officers attended to her and she was breathing but not responding to questions being asked.”

McLaughlin, who had dry blood on his clothing, was arrested as an ambulance took the woman to hospital.

Officers found keys on McLaughlin who stated: “They’re (the woman’s), she tried to attack my mum earlier on.”

The woman was found to have severe swelling to her eyes, cheek and forehead as well as a bleeding wound to the back of her head.

Miss Terrance told the court the doctor suggested that the woman could have had a bleed to the brain, but she refused treatment.

Miss Terrance stated that the pair are no longer together and the woman is in a new relationship.
