Fresh searches have been stepped up close to the River Clyde in the hunt for a missing Govan man who vanished from the city centre over a month ago.

Vincent Barr, 54, was last seen crossing the Tradeston Squiggly bridge at 9.10pm on Friday, 18 September - believed to be returning to the Travel Lodge he had been residing at on Paisley Road.

Almost four weeks later, police are carrying out renewed searches in Tradeston and Broomielaw in a bid trace his whereabouts as they become increasingly concerned for his welfare.

Sergeant Bob Anderson of Helen Street Police Station said: “Police are carrying out fresh searches in the Broomielaw area of Glasgow in an attempt to trace missing man Vincent Barr, also known as ‘Vinny’ or ‘Bardot’.

“He’s 50-years-old and he’s currently residing in the Govan area of Glasgow.

“Vinny has been missing for several weeks and we’re becoming increasingly concerned for his safety and wellbeing."

Specialist police units have been drafted into the search for missing Vincent, where extensive areas both North and South of the River Clyde have been analysed.

At this stage of the inquiry, the River Clyde has not yet been searched as intelligence from his last sighting at the Squiggly bridge leads officers to beileve Vincent moved away from the river and towards the South Side.

Sergeant Anderson said: “We’ve had extensive areas both North and South of the River Clyde searched as a matter of course in search for missing persons.

“Specialist units have been used in areas harder to find or where there is heavier overgrowth so they are used for that facility, but conventional officers are also being used in the search.

“Extensive CCTV inquiries are already underway and that will be carried out with further sightings of Vincent. We try to exhaust those possibilities as we have with other alleged sightings at this time.

“All inquiries suggest that Vincent moved away from the River Clyde and headed Southbound at this time so searching the river has not come to our attention at this moment. Any further sightings will be followed up."

Police currently describe inquiries into Vincent's disappearance as "extensive".

Sergeant Anderson added: “Our current line of inquiry is extensive at this stage but our appeal suggests that we are looking for members of the public to speak to us if they have any information on Vincent’s whereabouts."

Vincent is described as white, 5ft 6in in height, with a medium build. He has short light-brown hair and brown eyes, and also walks with a slight limp.
When last seen, he was wearing a grey Nike hoodie, black jogging bottoms and grey training shoes.

He is known to frequent the city centre, Saracen, Possil and West End areas of Glasgow.

Sergeant Anderson concluded: "Vincent tends to keep himself to himself, but we would appeal directly to him to contact officers, or someone he knows, to confirm he is safe and well.

"I would again urge anyone who has possibly seen him, or who has any knowledge of where he might be, to please get in touch with us.

"It's imperative any information, no matter how small, is passed onto local officers, who can be spoken to via 101, quoting reference number 1116 of Sunday, 20 September."
