THE plan for Ruchill Hospital by Bellway private developers is wrong. It needs a major rethink. We need to start again and look at what a brilliant opportunity we have to make things better for local communities and the whole of Glasgow. The current plans are for a private, ready-made private walled community with no public housing (and it’s a pretty high wall!). It will only increase the already high demand for good quality public housing.

It’s all about the money and with absolutely zero regard to surrounding communities.
We are expected just to accept increased emissions from all the cars and have zero access to the area. This is an area which contains a major Ruchill and Possilpark landmark in the water tower and it will become a private enclave surrounded by walls.

Also, house prices in Glasgow are rising fast (possibly at a rate only second to London) so the costs will be out of reach for majority. Then in a few short years as they are sold on, it will be private landlords in control.

It’s a proposal that when made 15 years ago was objectionable (Westend Moves North) and still is. We desperately need homes for all, not high-density intense private housing developments excluding people and creating divided communities.

The scale of private builds across Possilpark particularly suggests a planned move to exclude many. We now live in a “prime location” but we need to build homes that build communities for all. Our population is expected to double over next ten years.

Where are those who cannot afford to buy, or choose not to, supposed to live? Housing should be about homes not profits.

WRITER RD describes George Galloway as an eloquent and skilful politician (Letters, October 14).

Many others would describe him as an opportunist and a traitor to the socialist cause he once loved to espouse.

Glasgow Times: George Galloway George Galloway

I think RD is just a disillusioned Unionist who will use any offbeat character in their desperation to keep Scotland in the UK straitjacket. That’s how much they love their country.

WHEN are the voters in Scotland going to waken up to the SNP? They are behaving as the pigs in Animal Farm – you will do as we say, not as we do.

Can you imagine Scotland as a dictatorship with President Sturgeon in charge and Swinney as deputy? What hope do our children have. No education, no health service, no jobs, but the criminals will have nothing to fear as they all walk free with Yousaf as justice minister.

Thank God I’m one of the “expendables” over 65 so probably will be killed off by politics.
