What’s it like to live in one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world?

Fancy living in one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world? If you live in Glasgow then luckily you won’t have too far to travel, with Dennistoun in the East End of Glasgow just awarded 8th place on Time Out’s recent list of coolest neighbourhoods in the world.

So what makes Dennistoun so special?

Known for its streets of traditional redstone tenement flats, Dennistoun has been dubbed an ‘up and coming’ neighbourhood in Glasgow for quite some time now. Only a short distance from the City Centre, it’s home to some of the best places to eat and drink plus an amazing community spirit.

If you’re thinking of making a move, then here’s a little taste of what Dennistoun has to offer.

Food and Drink

We Scots love our food, so it’s no wonder that having the best places to eat on our doorstep is a strong motivator when it comes to deciding on our new home, and its location. Luckily Dennistoun has plenty to offer. For breakfast, lunch, brunch and everything in between then Scran is perfect. Loved by foodies all around Glasgow for its great tasting food and coffees. We highly recommend the Scran roll to set you up for the day ahead.

If you’re a fan of Café Strange Bew in the Southside then you’ll love Mesa, its sister venue. Located on famous Duke Street, it’s another great lunch venue known for their amazing choices of sweet and savoury options.

For those of you who are veggie, Tapa Coffee & Bakehouse is a must try for tasty sandwiches and you can even stock up on homemade organic bread while you’re there.

Fancy something a bit meatier? Then Dennistoun Bar-B-Que is a must visit – perfect for tackling those cravings and curing those hangovers.

You’re not short of amazing restaurants either, with Celino’s traditional Italian on Alexandra Parade which offers both dine in and takeaway or Coia’s – a family run business established in 1928 and still serving up amazing, quality food and friendly atmosphere.

Shopping

If it’s shopping you’re after then you’re spoilt for choice in Dennistoun. Just a few minutes on the train and you’re in the heart of Glasgow City Centre, with an array of high street fashion retailers like H&M, Topshop, River Island, Zara and Primark. There are several larger department stores too like Debenhams and Frasers – one for a visit at Christmas to see it all lit up, guaranteed to fill you with festive spirit.

In the other direction, staying east, you’ve also got the Forge Shopping Centre and Forge Markets – perfect for picking up a bargain or two! Nearby you have the Retail Park with all the usual stores like B&M, Argos, Pets at Home and a few furniture shops – ideal for picking up your new home essentials.

Just jump in the car and head on the motorway and you’ll find the Glasgow Fort, an outdoor shopping centre with shops, restaurants, cinema and gym.

If you fancy shopping more locally, the charity shops on Duke Street are known for great finds and the recently opened Zero Waste Market on Hillfoot Street offers great produce with the added bonus of being environmentally friendly.

Dennistoun is not short on transport links, with key bus routes running to and from the city centre and plenty of train stops throughout.
