A SKATING star from Greenock is celebrating the biggest achievement of her career - landing a professional role on TV's Dancing On Ice.

Angela Egan has spent the last eight years touring every continent of the world playing Cinderella in the family favourite Disney on Ice.

Now she'll be under the watchful eye of skating legends Torvill and Dean and almost seven million members of the British public as she takes up the position of professional skater on the popular programme.

The talented 34-year-old is now in training with her celebrity partner - Sonny Jay of Capital Breakfast Radio - in preparation for the live shows kicking off in the new year.

Angela is the first professional female skater since the show's 'reboot' in 2017 to come from the United Kingdom.

She told our sister title The Greenock Telegraph: "I've been skating since I was around eight and helped to start the Waterfront Ice Skating Club locally.

"I went to university in London and then decided to skate professionally for a year afterwards to make money - however, that one year turned into 10.

"I still can't quite believe this is my new role.

"With the pandemic, Disney on Ice unfortunately hasn't been able to happen so I've not been working.

"This has come at the perfect time and with the way the industry is, I feel so lucky."

Angela auditioned for the show three years ago but was unsuccessful in her efforts.

She met her dancing partner for the first time last week and was thrown in at the deep end by having her first radio interview on Capital Breakfast with presenter Roman Kemp.

Angela, whose boyfriend Cody Rowekamp is also a professional skater, told the Tele: "I didn't expect to be suddenly on the radio being interviewed shortly after meeting Sonny.

"He apparently has a little skating knowledge, but I'm looking forward to starting our training.

"The way things are with the pandemic, we have formed our own 'support bubble' and will not probably get to meet any of the other professional skaters or celebrities until the live shows in January."

The show will be presented by TV favourites Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield and Angela and Sonny will be competing against celebs such as Jason Donavan, Myleene Klass and Denise Van Outen.

Angela added: "My family, including my parents Irene and Frank, and my friends are so delighted for me.

"My mum keeps saying I've worked so hard for this opportunity and I really deserve it.

"It's not totally sunk in yet that this is what I'll be doing now, but I cannot wait to get started."
