POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a group of men were seen brandishing weapons in Johnstone.

Officers received a report of an organised fight taking place in Highcraig Avenue, near the Louise’s Kitchen take-away business at the junction of Greenend Avenue, at around 7.30pm on Saturday.

However, all of the men had fled by the time officers arrived at the scene.

Footage from a CCTV system covering the area shows around four people holding weapons, including a large knife.

It is understood no-one was injured during the incident and police are currently tracing the owner of a silver Renault Cleo seen in the area at the time.

Chief Inspector Jim Cast, area commander for Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, said: “Due to the time of day the incident took place, it is likely there would have been people in the area.

“We are appealing for anybody with information in connection to this incident to come forward.”

Anyone who can help the police with their investigation is asked to call officers on 101.
