A GUITAR whizz took to the hills of Craiglang to film a tribute to iconic TV comedy Still Game.

Set in the fictional North Glasgow neighbourhood of Craiglang but filmed in Maryhill and other areas in the north of the city, the show’s theme tune was covered by YouTuber Callum McGaw.

A classically-trained guitarist, he said he was encouraged by his girlfriend to deviate from his usual covers of the music from Hollywood blockbusters and American TV shows and video games to do something “a wee bit closer to home”.

Callum, 27, said: “I’m a fan of it but I was a big fan of Ford Kiernan back in the day, I’d say I actually watched Chewin’ the Fat more than I did Still Game.”

The guitarist and part-time Apple worker took to the hill next to the high-rise flats on Collina Street beside the canal, the home of the show’s Jack, Victor and Isa.

“I’m pretty sure Naveed’s cornershop is set near where I play fives at the pitches in Townhead, but I thought it would be too much to be switching the locations in such a short video,” he added.

Since picking up the instrument17 years ago, Callum went on to study classical guitar at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

His ultimate aim is to move from covering the music in film, TV and video games to be writing it.

He said: “I didn’t ever intend for it to be a job or anything like that but it’s going like that.

“The money from YouTube is just getting better and better.

“The dream is to eventually be writing the music for TV and film so I’m starting off doing covers so that I can move on to writing my own.”

The cover has racked up nearly 2,000 likes on Twitter and attracted praise from some of the show’s stars.

Paul Riley, who played Winston Ingram on the BBC sitcom, said: “That is brilliant, well done! Puts my skills into perspective - too much f****** perspective!”

Mark Cox, otherwise known as Tam, said: “Tremendous ma man.”

And Scott Reid, who stars as Methadone Mick and is now best known for his roles in Line of Duty and White House Farm, called the cover “brilliant”.

Martin, otherwise known as Tom Urie, said the cover was “amazing”.
