A BROWNIE leader and her daughter are taking part in an age-inspired challenge to raise money for two worthy causes.

Bishopton mum Emma Hutchison, 41, and six-year-old Sophie are combining their ages to walk for 47 minutes each day for 47 days in support of the BBC’s Children in Need appeal and Girlguiding, which is the UK’s leading charity for girls and young women.

Their challenge is part of the Act Your Age fundraising campaign, launched to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Children in Need.

In recognition of their good deed, the dynamic duo have been given coveted Pudsey badges to proudly display on their uniforms.

Emma, unit leader at the 1st Bishopton Brownies, said: “I can’t wait to take up our challenge. It’s great to be able to plan something fun that we can do together to help make a difference to the lives of children and young people.

“I love being part of my community and providing opportunities for our girls. Girlguiding has also helped me develop new skills, make new friends and travel to new parts of the world.”

Sophie, who is a member of the 3rd Bishopton Rainbows, added: “I love being a Rainbow and having fun with my friends.

“I’m excited to have fun with mummy and help Girlguiding and Children in Need too.”

Girlguiding will use its cash from the campaign to continue working alongside its dedicated volunteers to support girls’ and young women’s wellbeing, build their resilience and offer fun activities during this unprecedented time.

For BBC Children in Need, funds raised will help to support projects across the UK that are helping youngsters facing a range of disadvantages, such as poverty, disability, illness or trauma.

Emma Guthrie, assistant chief guide at Girlguiding, said: “We are incredibly excited and proud to be partnering with BBC Children in Need in its milestone 40th year.

“This year has been challenging for everyone, especially our children and young people, and it’s imperative now, more than ever, that we do everything we can to ensure they are not forgotten and have access to the support they need to thrive.”
