PEOPLE across Inverclyde will get the chance to see a daredevil military exercise in action.
Personnel from the Submarine Parachute Assistance Group (SPAG) will be testing their rescue capabilities by jumping from RAF aircraft into the River Clyde, acting as first responders to a simulation of a submarine in distress.
The team of qualified Royal Navy submariners, divers, medics, Royal Marine and Army Commandos will be performing the exercise between Helensburgh and Greenock on Monday at around 3.30pm and again at 6.30pm.
Support vessels from 43 Commando Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines and the MOD Police’s Clyde Marine Unit will be on hand to help recover the parachutists from the water.
The SPAG was based at the Submarine Escape Training Tank (SETT) in Gosport before moving to HM Naval Base Clyde’s new state-of-the-art Submarine Escape, Rescue, Abandonment and Survivability (SMERAS) facility.
The team are sent in to deliver medical supplies, food and communications equipment to stricken vessels.
