A GREENOCK man was nearly twice the booze limit when he rode a dirt bike along a number of roads — because he was 'too lazy' to push it.

Kieran O'Donnell — who has no licence or insurance — had been riding the bike off-road before deciding to take it home through various streets whilst intoxicated.

The 20-year-old has now been hit with a hefty fine as well following an appearance in front of a sheriff.

He has also been banned from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a year.

Prosecutor John Penman said: "Police on mobile patrol were asked to deal with a report of a male on a dirt bike on Reservoir Road.

"They stopped him and detected alcohol on his breath.

"Police had followed him on a number of roads."

O'Donnell, who was stopped near his home on Grieve Road on the evening of May 29, was found to have 41mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

The legal limit it 22mcg.

Defence lawyer Gordon Nicol said: "Work was needing done to the bike and he was testing it at a large piece of off-road ground near Reservoir Road.

"He did that and then he took the bike onto the public roads.

"It was a case of being too lazy to push it.

"He has no previous road traffic convictions."

Sheriff Andrew McIntyre said: "I see that this was a brief course of conduct and I accept it is at the lower scale of such readings.

"But that doesn't mean that it's a minor matter."

The sheriff fined O'Donnell £400.
