POLICE closed off a city centre street after a man fell from scaffolding. 

Wellington Street was closed to traffic in both directions after a large police presence was seen in the road.

A source at a nearby construction site said there were four ambulances, police cars and fire engines.

The council confirmed that Wellington Street was closed to traffic between St Vincent Street and Bothwell Street this morning.

The street has now reopened. 

A police spokeswoman said: "Around 7.45am on Tuesday, October 26, officers were called to a report of a man fallen from scaffolding in St Vincent Lane in Glasgow City Centre. 

"Emergency services are at the scene at this time."
