HALLOWEEN is coming back from the dead for kids in Port Glasgow - thanks to kind-hearted volunteers.

The close-knit community in Park Farm is putting on a special pumpkin-picking session to cheer up children in the area.

With the traditional Galoshans tradition of youngsters going round houses in fancy dress all but cancelled this year due to coronavirus, it is hoped this will keep spirits alive.

The event has been arranged by the local Covid-19 support group, who continue to help friends, neighbours and people in the town.

Mum-of-two Lynn Foreman, who played a key role in the grassroots relief effort in the town during lockdown, said: "We just wanted to do something for the children in Park Farm.

"Halloween has always been a big deal for us all in the neighbourhood.

"We have an ideal area for pumpkin-picking at Mull Avenue.

"We have arranged socially distanced slots for everyone, with pumpkins, sweets and Halloween treats.

"It is going to be great."

The happy Halloween event has seen local people donating pumpkins and other goodies as they try to help youngsters on their doorsteps.

The support network also continues to play a key role supporting vulnerable folk in the neighbourhood.

They set up a co-ordinated team at the start of the pandemic, linking in with various groups to ensure that everyone had support - whether it was food packages, shopping or someone to talk to during the lockdown.

Lynn said: "There is still a huge need out there and we see people are struggling.

"We want to continue to help in whatever way we can.

"We were really touched with all the donations we received from people, it was so kind."
