INVERCLYDE has recorded one of the highest number of youngsters in the country taking part in the summer reading challenge.
Newly released figures show that more than 1,000 children aged four to 12 this year took part in the project run by the library service.
Inverclyde is now second top in the table for participation, as the number of bookworms in the area grows.
The challenge is part of a number of library initiatives for young people, including Bookbug, holiday activities and after school clubs.
