POLICE are appealing for information after two pensioners were hit by a car in Johnstone.

Two women - aged 73 and 80 - were crossing Walkinshaw Street, at its junction with High Street, when they were stuck by a blue Nissan Note at around 11.45am on Thursday.

Emergency services attended the scene and both women were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, in Glasgow.

Police said the male driver and female passenger of the Nissan Note were uninjured but left badly shaken by the incident.

The road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators conducted enquiries.

Sergeant Roy McCarney said: "I am appealing to people and motorists who were in the area around the time of the incident to get in touch with any information they may have.

"In particular, motorists with dash cams, please check your footage as it may have captured images which could assist our enquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 1140 of 29 October.
