A CAR fire in the South Side of Glasgow caused delays for commuters this morning.

Traffic on the M77 was brought to a near standstill after the motor was hit by a blaze at around 7.45am.

Cars were forced to slow down as lane one northbound near junction two was closed for around an hour near Silverburn Shopping Centre.

While the lane has since reopened, Traffic Scotland chiefs have warned motorists to be prepared for delays back to junction four.

Traffic Scotland wrote on Twitter:  "#M77 northbound J2 Lane 1 of 2 is closed due to an earlier vehicle fire.

"Traffic slow on approach back to J3."

A further update at 8am added: "#M77 northbound J2 Lane 1 of 2 remains closed due to an earlier vehicle fire.

"Traffic queuing back to J4 - delays approx 25 mins."

Finally, they added: "Lane 1 now open - both lanes running."
