THE boss of a Glasgow hairdressers has told of the challenges of adapting to new lockdown rules - but said the industry is making the most of it.

Sam Goodwin, of Goodwin's Hair Boutique, revealed the salon has had to reduce its usual capacity by about 50% to comply with Scottish Government Covid-19 restrictions.

The Merchant City staple remains open, like other venues across the city, under level three of the new tier system but could be closed if Glasgow moves into tier four.

Ms Goodwin said: "I've got quite a small salon so it does bring it's own problems. I have had to reduce my sections, which means we can't do as many clients as we usually do in a day, a week, or a month. It is quite difficult.

"I've had to space my sections apart, so there is two metres distance, to ensure my staff and customers are safe but it does mean we can do less than we normally do.

"I have three stylists and we can normally do two clients at one time. At the moment, we are working at 50% capacity.

"If we are staying in tier three, that means we are working the same way we have been working the last couple of months."

Ms Goodwin added during an interview with BBC Scotland's Good Morning Scotland programme: "We are worried if we go into tier four as that means we will be closed again.

"People are getting used to it because they have to. People want to get their hair done and want to work.

"They are not enjoying wearing a mask all day and it's not nice working with your clients when they usually see our faces.

"It's a personal industry and working with people while not seeing half their face is quite difficult.

"Some people have grown their colour out or decided to go for the chop. It's quite a high percentage of our customers were desperate to get in and get their hair back to normal.

"I miss a few of my gent clients who haven't come back but most of them have come back."
