Rangers hero Ally McCoist has shot down a claim made by a supporter suggesting that Manchester United should move for Steven Gerrard.

A fan told Darren Bent's Boot Room show on talkSPORT that the Old Trafford giants should move for the Liverpool legend as a replacement for the under fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United fan Brett, said: “I’d break the bank and go for Steven Gerrard to replace Ole.

“Listen, money talks. The guy has absolutely got an identity in how he wants to play.

“He can motivate players. It’s a no-brainer.”

Asked about the claim on this morning's breakfast show, Gers hero McCoist told of his horror.

Naming his Numpty Of The Week, he said: "Listen, listen, he's won it. Brett's won it.

"Never mind Steven Gerrard ex-Liverpool, just leave him alone.

"Leave Steven alone! The campaign to leave Steven alone starts HERE. Okay?"

Producer George added: "Sign the petition here! Leave Steven alone! Leave him north of the border!"

And McCoist responded: "Yes, exactly! Exactly George it starts here now."
