THE founder of a gay-friendly walking group has been recognised for looking after the fitness and mental health of his community.
Tommy Clarke, from Kinning Park, started the group OUT two years ago to encourage people from the LGBT community to take up walking after he was delivered grim health news.
The 41-year-old said: “A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with liver disease and borderline diabetes, I was told that if I did not change my lifestyle and diet that I would be taking medication for life and my liver would eventually fail.
“Walking has not only been a good way to continue my hobby for learning about history and having adventures but it’s also helped my weight loss journey.”
Tommy is part of LEAP Sports Scotland and won the Health Walk Volunteer of the Year at the 2020 Paths for All Volunteer Awards.
