A SINGLE mum is at the end of her tether after being forced to cook meals in her living room due to an ongoing leak in her kitchen.

Kirsty Brown, 28, has spent more than seven weeks emptying litres upon litres of water from buckets set up on her kitchen floor.

The Drumchapel woman has been battling with Glasgow Housing Association since mid-September to stop the leak.

The housing association has sent at least four tradesmen out, including five electricians, and she is demanding action is taken to stop the worsening drip from the kitchen ceiling.

She said: “It feels so, so damp. I am scared to use the cooker, I am scared to use the washing machine. It is running down the wall alongside the switches, she said.

“I have had to move my fridge freezer into the back bedroom.”

The young mum has been forced to cook meals with a kettle and microwave in her sitting room, she added: “I am not really too fussed about myself as long as the wean is fed.”

Concerned for the health of her son, Mason, 7, she has relied on the help of her family to ensure the seven-year-old has somewhere to stay but she is forced to limit the help she can receive due to the pandemic.

“It just feels like I am not getting anywhere,” Ms Brown added.

“I think the housing officer needs to come out and see it herself.”

The 28-year-old believes there has been a problem with communication.

Glasgow Times:

A plumber checked for the leak in the upstairs flat but did not found the leak source.

However, the housing association claims the source of the leak has now been found.

Meanwhile, a joiner sent over last weekend “just scanned with his eyes” and told her there was nothing that could be done until the source of the leak was stopped.

The family believes the leak is coming from the veranda outside. with heavy rain causing the leak to become worse.

“The housing as far as I am concerned has taken it too far. They should have sorted it sooner,” she said.

Glasgow Times:

Her sister Nicole Brown said: “My sister has a just turned seven year old son and they’re happy for them to life in these conditions?

“She can’t access her kitchen to cook properly. Even if she makes a sandwich it’s getting wet.”

The leak now seems to be spreading into her hallway and even the bathroom.

A spokesman for Glasgow Housing Association said: “We’re sorry this has taken so long.

"There was a delay in finding the source of the leak from the flat upstairs, but that has now been fixed.

“Since then, we’ve tried to contact the tenant below several times to try to finish off the work in her home. We also visited her twice, but unfortunately we couldn’t get in.

“We’ll get this sorted as quickly as we can and we’re happy to discuss how we can help replace any of her damaged possessions.”
