Fire crews are currently tackling a blaze stemming from the ground floor of a building in the East End.
Shettleston Road is currently closed in both directions between Vesalius Street and Chester.
Six fire engines have been called to the scene as firefighters work to extinguish the flames.
Glasgow City Council's Traffic Management team TRAFFCOM has advised drivers to avoid the area.
One eyewitness said: "I could see the smoke and smell it before I seen the fire.
"I turned the corner and the smoke was blowing as high as the tenement. I'm not sure how many people were evacuated from the building but there was at least over 20 anyway.
"I think there was people in nearby blocks and shops that were evacuated too as a precaution."
A Scottish Fire & Rescue service statement reads: “We are currently in attendance at a fire on Shettleston Road in Glasgow.
“We were called at 4.50pm and six fire appliances with specialist resources have been mobilised to the scene.
“Firefighters are currently tackling a fire in a ground floor premises of a three-story building.”
Police Scotland assisted Scottish Fire and Rescue with the incident.
The Glasgow Times understands there are only minor injuries as a result of the fire.
