HEALTH bosses have moved in to deal with Covid-19 cases at nearly 30 schools in North Lanarkshire, according to one of the area's MSPs.

Monica Lennon has revealed contact tracing is underway at education hubs across the county with locations in the likes of Airdrie, Cumbernauld, and Motherwell affected.

Notably, more than 200 pupils and staff have been placed into isolation at Taylor High School, New Stevenson, following an outbreak of the virus earlier this month.

A North Lanarkshire Council spokeswoman said: “Regrettably, an update provided to elected members and others was posted on social media without making clear the context or that it covered the previous three days. This has led to understandable confusion from parents.

“Schools across the country are experiencing cases of coronavirus which result in other pupils being asked to self-isolate. In North Lanarkshire we are extremely open with parents when this happens, working closely with public health experts from NHS Lanarkshire. Each person being asked to self-isolate receives a letter from NHS Lanarkshire, and the wider school community is also informed.

“It’s also essential that patient confidentiality is maintained. Parents can be assured that we will continue to be in direct contact with them when it is ascertained that a positive case has attended school.”
