ONE of the country’s leading film festivals is set to return to Glasgow in person and on streaming sites next year.

The Glasgow Film Festival (GFF), hosted by the Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) will run from February 24 to March 7 next year with a mixing theatre screenings with a new online streaming platform, Glasgow Film at Home.

Audiences can tune into the new platform later this month, with hits from this year’s film festival available to stream.

The audience award winning film about the Irish Potato Famine, Arracht, as well as the Icelandic drama Echo will be available on the new streaming site.

Allison Gardner, head of Glasgow Film, the charity which runs GFF and the GFT, and the co-director of the festival, said: “We are delighted to be bringing Glasgow Film Festival back in 2021 in as safe as possible a way.

“GFF has always been a festival for audiences and, though our festival must take a different shape this year, our audiences are still at the heart of everything we do.

“Glasgow Film at Home and our new branding will invite GFF straight into your living room, and the Best of the Fest programme will give a taster of what’s to come and share incredible cinema with audiences all around Scotland and the UK this November.”

Councillor David McDonald, the chair of Glasgow Life said the council was proud to support the festival.

He added: “We’re proud to support Glasgow Film Festival for another year, and especially at a time when the enjoyment and entertainment which film brings is more important than ever – particularly for those who will choose to take part in the Film Festival both closer to home and also from the comfort of their own living rooms.”

This year’s festival drew record audiences, with more than 43,000 tickets sold.
