NEW Gorbals Housing Association has set up a link with their local food bank to feed the most vulnerable people in the community.

Since March the organisation, who also founded the Gorbals response group, has managed to distribute more than 3000 meals as well as a further 3000 meals from Social Bite to help those struggling financially.

The association has also benefited from £211,000 Scottish Government funding to help them continue their work in the community.

An update was brought before the Southside Area Partnership on Tuesday.

Michael Fullerton, community coordinator of thriving places for New Gorbals Housing Association, said: “Since lockdown we have been ensuring people have enough food.

“We have managed to set up a link with the local food banks.

“The Gorbals response group has brought together frontline staff, voluntary and public sector partners.

“We met weekly to discuss what we could do and what funding opportunities there were and the key priorities for the area.

“We will now move to monthly meetings unless things change, and we go into further lockdown restrictions.

“We still have close connections through emails and whatsapp groups.
