A CELTIC legend has told of his heartache after his sister passed away in her 40s.

John Hartson confirmed sibling Hayley had died at the age of 46 and was due to be laid to rest in her native Wales today.

The retired striker took to social media to announce the sad news, revealing she had passed away last month.

He wrote: "It is with great sadness today we put our beloved Hayley to rest.

"Hayley passed away on the 21, October. We are totally devasted.

"She will be sorely missed. There are no words. RIP big sister."

Messages of support poured in for Hartson.

Former Sky Sports Scotland host David Tanner wrote: "John, so sorry to hear about your sad news. God bless, mate."

Former Arsenal, Wimbledon and West Ham striker Hartson joined Martin O'Neill's side for £6million from Coventry City in August 2001, and netted 88 times in 146 games before moving to West Bromwich Albion.
