A number of Glasgow hairdressers have urged their clients to book up appointments urgently as the city is braced on being placed on the highest level of coronavirus restrictions.

The First Minister will confirm at today’s daily coronavirus briefing in Parliament at around 2.30pm if Glasgow will face Covid-19 limitations similar to those felt in the nationwide lockdown earlier this year.

Tier four will mean a temporary shutdown of all non-essential businesses - including barbers and hairdressers - in a bid to bring the rate of coronavirus infections down.

Writing on Facebook, Rebel Rebel urged its customers to book up before the week ends.

A statement reads: "There’s been a lot of talk of lockdowns again recently, with both Northern Ireland and Wales closing their barbershops and salons in recent weeks

"With the announcement of the new 5 tier system in Scotland, and the confirmation that the implementation of a Tier 4 category in Glasgow would mean that we have to close, it’s starting to feel similar to the situation we had back in March

"A haircut might not be everyone’s priority right now, but if you are looking to book in, we would encourage you to do so this week, in case the situation changes."

Halo Hair Studio in Clarkston wrote: "We are waiting to hear what is said in today’s announcement, but as we fall into the close contact category it is looking very likely that we will have to close later on in the week.

"We are doing our best to bring forward as many clients as we can but if we go into lockdown 2.0 we will only have 3 days left to work.

"We can only do what we can do as we already had a busy week ahead of us and we apologise if we are unable to fit you in."

Meanwhile, 281 Hairdressers in the city centre has made more spaces available to accommodate extra clients.

A post reads: "In anticipation of another potential lockdown as per the media we have opened up more availability for next week, if you would like to move your appointment forward please contact us and we will do our best for you."
