INVERCLYDE has avoided going back into lockdown after the First Minister announced the district would stay in Level 3 of the coronavirus restrictions.

The decision was announced at the Scottish Parliament in the last few minutes.

Nicola Sturgeon said the decision had taken into account Covid trends in the area, the pace of those trends, hospital and intensive care capacity and added that consultation had taken place with Inverclyde Council.

She said the area was making progress but that it was fragile.
