A POLICE probe into a disgraced Lanarkshire MP who broke Covid-19 rules has moved a step closer to completion.

Cops have confirmed they have passed on an initial assessment to the Crown Office into the conduct of Margaret Ferrier.

The Rutherglen and Hamilton West MP travelled from London to Glasgow after testing positive for coronavirus. It is also understood that she visited a beach and a church while showing symptoms of the bug.

The MP has been roundly criticised for her behaviour last month and told to resign by opposition politicians as well as her own SNP colleagues.

Nicola Sturgeon publicly said several times that the MP should "consider her position".

However, Ms Ferrier has refused to stand down and said she would stay on as an MP for her constituents, even though they have also said they think she should resign.

In a statement, Police Scotland confirmed their investigation had moved one step closer to completion.
