CHARITIES helping people dealing with mental health issues during the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown need support, a Glasgow MP has said.
David Linden, SNP MP for Glasgow East, said feelings of loneliness have made nearly two thirds of people’s mental health worse during the past month, with 18-24-year-olds the most likely to see loneliness affect their mental health.
Mr Linden spoke in a House of Commons debate on International Men’s Day.
He said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has hugely impacted everyone’s lives. With many people now facing insecurity around their employment and financial hardship, alongside having to deal with restrictions around seeing loved ones.
“I know that many men find conversations around mental health to be tough and awkward – but they are so incredibly important, particularly at the moment.
“In a time where more us will be feeling isolated and lonely it’s important to reach out to your loved ones, a simple text, phone call or facetime can make the world of difference. I am calling upon Governments across the UK to support mental health charities helping people during the pandemic.”
