A Glasgow cat who was given a second chance at a happy life has landed the starring role in a charity calendar.

Photogenic Bertie was chosen to feature in Cats Protection’s 2021 calendar, bagging the January spot.

Six-year-old Bertie was adopted from Cats Protection’s Glasgow Adoption Centre by Derek Motley and his wife Isobel, and has earned himself the nickname ‘Flirty Bertie’ because he is so affectionate towards visitors.

Glasgow Times:

This is Derek’s first rescue cat, but picked up cat-caring experience from strays he “acquired” in his home country of New Zealand.

“Bertie needed a lot of veterinary attention while he was in the care of Cats Protection so I can only conclude he had fallen on hard times,” said Derek.

“However, from the moment he arrived at his new home with my wife and me, he has proven himself to be a very sociable and affectionate character with a typically cat-like love of long sleeps in comfortable spaces. Flirty Bertie remains in good health and is much loved.”

The calendar helps the charity to raise much-needed funds for cats and kittens who are looking for new homes. Fundraising has been a significant casualty of the pandemic res and Cats Protection is only able to continue its work thanks to the financial generosity of its supporters.

The calendar is now available for £5 online here.
