ROOKIE gardeners at Rainbow Family Centre are looking forward to a bumper crop of garlic.

Tots are enjoying planting their own vegetables, as well as spring bulbs.

The garlic will be used by the nursery for their cookery classes and making their own soup.

Karen Toland, the centre's 'eco warrior' said: "The children have enjoyed being involved in the garden.

"They have been planting bulbs tulips and daffodils and now planting their own food.

"Our family support worker Catherine McIntyre will use the garlic for her cookery classes and we will also use it to make soup for snack."

Early years education and childcare officer Lyndsay Cleary also supported the children.

She quipped: "They were enthusiastic about watering it and it helped them to learn all about the process of where their food comes from."

Luci Ransome is also supporting the work in the garden as part of extra funding through the Health and Social Care Partnership.
