THE chair of the local carers' council has sent a message of support to mark tomorrow's Carers Rights Day.

This year’s theme is 'know your rights' but unfortunately the council will not be able to hold their usual get-together with a guest speaker.

Irene Pollard, chair, said: "The Carers' Council have not gone away but due to the virus we have not been able to meet and arrange our usual programmes.

"But things are looking more hopeful and perhaps in the new year we shall be able to proceed as normal."

Irene, recently awarded an MBE, says she wants carers to stay safe and well.

She added: "I am very much aware of how isolating this few months have been and how difficult it must have been for caring and keeping safe both for carers and the cared for.

"I would appeal to all who are living near to people who are caring to enquire if you can help in any way, perhaps by shopping or some other way - even just a telephone call."

Although the carers' centre is closed staff are working from home and can be contacted on 01475 735180.
