AROUND five members of staff from a busy IRH ward have tested positive for Covid-19, the Tele can reveal.

Ward J North at the hospital has been affected by an outbreak which has left several team members isolating at home.

A source told the Tele that junior nurses had to take over the running of the ward.

Nurses are said to be increasingly concerned about their own health as well as their families and patients.

Our source said: "Staff are very worried about being at home and passing the virus onto their families.

"They're very angry that patients are all being mixed in together in the same ward.

"People are there recovering from heart attacks and there are dementia patients in the ward too.

"Junior members of staff are now running things and they don't have enough experience.

"It's a terrible situation."

Bosses from NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde today responded by saying the ward remains open.

They added that staffing levels were 'safe' and that senior nurses were in place.

A health board spokesperson told the Telegraph: "Ward J North remains open to patients.

"We want to reassure the public that Covid-19 positive patients are managed on a separate clinical pathway to other patients in accordance with national guidance.

"We continue to have appropriate senior nursing staff on the ward and safe levels of staffing across the hospital.

"We follow the latest guidance on infection prevention and control to minimise any transmission of the virus in our hospitals including testing.

"We test staff and patients in line with national guidance and rigorously apply best practice across our hospital sites to ensure we can continue to deliver safe care for patients and look after the welfare of our staff."
