A mass coronavirus testing programme has been rolled out in Glasgow today, with two areas in the city opening temporary facilities.

The move has been brought forward to test asymptomatic cases - those who do not display Covid-19 symptoms - in a bid to prevent further transmission of the virus.

The tests will be offered to everyone living in Dalmarnock and Pollokshields from today until December 9.

There is capacity to conduct around 800 tests a day at each site, with results expected to be delivered within 48 hours.

Where can I get my test?

Two mobile testing centres have been set up in Pollokshields (in the large car park on Albert Drive, opposite the Tramway Theatre) and Dalmarnock (in the Emirates Area car park.

They'll be open from 9am - 6pm every day until December 9.

How do I book a test?

Anybody who does and does not display symptoms for the virus can book a test online via the UK Government website (see HERE).

Complete all of the details and submit the online form. Confirmation will be sent with a QR code which will be scanned at your arrival at the test site.

Residents in Pollokshields and Dalmarnock will also receive letters advising to book tests with details on how to book one.

How does the testing centre operate?

Residents can turn up if prepared for a short wait.

Drive-thru and walk-thru testing will be available to all residents.

Why are the facilities available in these areas?

The council and health board said the areas have been chosen after analysis of incidence rates and identified vulnerable groups in the communities.

Parkhead, close to Dalmarknock, has been the worst-hit area in Scotland for increasing coronavirus cases for two consecutive weeks.
