A POPULAR café in the Lanarkshire countryside has made it to the shortlist of a prestigious national competition.
The Heron Farm Shop and Kitchen, near Strathaven, is one of only two Scottish finalists in the running at the Farm Retail Association (FRA) awards. Winners will be announced at a virtual ceremony on March 3.
Set up by Glasgow nurse-turned-sheep farmer Emma Smith and her husband Angus in April 2019, The Heron has won fans across the Central Belt thanks to its ‘field to fork’ concept of championing home grown, locally sourced food and gifts.
Emma said: “We are delighted to be named as finalists in the Rising Star category. I am so proud of the team’s resilience. It makes all the hard work worthwhile when customers describe us as a ‘lockdown haven’.”
