I HAVE to say that I’ve supported most of the decisions the Scottish Government has taken in respect of steering us through this awful pandemic, however, this particular decision has, in my view, been done for purely political and electoral advantage and that is as clear for all to see (Nicola Sturgeon announces one off Covid-19 thank you payment for NHS and care staff, November 30).

There is an unfairness about the said payment as how can the FM justify awarding the payment to all staff when many patients had their care “suspended” and had been left to self-manage? I’m thinking of GP practices, dentists etc.

Moreover, should an NHS administrator receive this payment while the staff in our supermarkets receive nothing? If I was a “key worker” working in a supermarket tonight I’d be very angry about this payment. If any group should receive this payment it should be those who had been directly involved in caring for those of our loved ones who unfortunately succumbed to the virus.

WE are in the midst of a global pandemic. Many thousands of people have lost their businesses and/or jobs.

The retail sector has collapsed, and with that, the workers’ pension funds have gone.

Care home residents and staff and relatives of both groups are living in a nightmare world.

Nicola Sturgeon has found the perfect solution to end all of this misery. Scotland’s independence!

She reminds me of Nero when Rome was burning.

I’M glad to see the Scottish Government issuing a payment to NHS and care staff.

This virus is not going anywhere. We will still need the incredible work of our nurses and hospital staff. I can only imagine their stress, so if this helps give them a boost, it’s very welcome.

HAVING phoned Glasgow City Council’s street lighting department umpteen times and also speaking to SNP MSP Humza Yousaf, left (who also contacted the council), we are no further on in getting the street lights repaired on Tweedsmuir Road, Cardonald.

There are around seven lights out on this road, some of which have been out since July! Only a matter of time before there is a bad accident.
