A THUG scarred a man for life after stabbing him four times in a row over cigarettes.

Peter Callaghan, 34, turned on Sean McCarthy, 32, outside Reardon’s snooker hall in Glasgow city centre on February 2 2018.

Mr McCarthy, a construction worker, suffered permanent wounds to his thigh, forearm and wrist.

Callaghan, of Busby, Renfrewshire was convicted at the High Court in Glasgow to the assault to Mr McCarthy’s severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

The dad was also found guilty of possession of a knife in a public place.

Mr McCarthy claimed to have chatted with Callaghan who approached him.

Mr McCarthy said: “He became very aggressive. He may have asked me for a smoke or a light but I didn’t have any.

“He looked smashed due to drink or narcotics.

“He came face to face and he had the knife and stabbed me four times.

“I didn’t see a knife, I just felt it and stumbled back and he ran or walked away.

“I realised there was blood coming from my arm and I wrapped my belt around it.”

He was taken to hospital where he was treated for the wounds which have left a permanent scar.

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports by Judge Tom Hughes who continued Callaghan’s remand in custody meantime.
