I WAS pleased to read that John Swinney has confirmed that he won’t be extending the school holidays over Christmas.

Parents can’t just tell their employer that they need an extra week off over Christmas due to the Scottish Government deciding to changes dates at the last minute.

I know every sector is struggling due to the pandemic, but there has to be some consideration given to parents.

I HAVE great sympathy for this gentleman, my wife and I also do not have a TV and have not had one for many years (Former soldier senior citizen ‘is being hounded by “threatening” letters from TV licensing bosses’, Glasgow Times online).

We have 32 threatening letters from Capita Business Services, which operates on behalf of the TVL on the hall table.

One of these letters also says we will get a visit today – that’s been said before and no-one turns up.

Which part of “We don’t have a TV” does TVL and Capita not understand?

Over the years, two of our MPs have passed on the message, sadly it falls on deaf ears. We have been threatened with court action, bring it on I say!

Both organisations willingly engage in threating and intimidation behavior towards the public in my opinion.

Note for TVL and Capita: never mind the threats, put up or shut up!

I’M disgusted by my fellow Celtic supporters over their behaviour at our stadium over the weekend.

Behaving in that way will achieve nothing – and especially during a global pandemic.

I agree recent results have not been great for the club, but that doesn’t mean a minority should begin acting like animals and disgrace the name of the team with their actions.

This isn’t the correct way to encourage change at the club. And it will not help the confidence of the players or management when they see so-called supporters acting like thugs.

It’s time to stick together and encourage the team.

OUR report on an increase in taxi fares sparked many comments. Here’s a selection...

PUTTING up the fares when 2020 has been a nightmare for everyone losing their jobs?

If they do they won’t get much work as it’s hard enough for everyone without fares and prices going up.

Andy Vansky Smith

THE council allows a rise every year, this year the income of these guys has fallen drastically, but they are expected to give free rides to NHS workers to get them to work during lockdown.

Government dishes money out, yet the taxi drivers and other self-employed have yet to see any of the extra cash.

Patrick Menzies

WHY shouldn’t they? Every single business has been hit by this pandemic.

I don’t see anyone giving them a handout.

They all have families to feed and roofs to keep over their head too.

WHEN they’re competing with the horrible, multi-national Uber, quite rightly banned from operating in other UK cities, it’s only fair this rise has had to come about.

The competition is so much, they need every penny they get.

Jill Ferguson

THE taxi trade does not have to accept the fare increase.

Keeping the fares low in a now larger competitive market – the private hire sector stay below the taxi fare, thus creating a choice – and with Uber now entering into the digital market, the only hope for the taxi trade is the designated taxi ranks throughout the city.

Increasing the fare won’t help at this time. Need a re-think.

GLASGOW Airport increased their drop-off charge by 100%. Yet a few moaning about 3%. Deary me, I’d have expected a large rise given the way businesses are struggling to pay the overheads.
