A busy road has been shut off for rest of the day after a road crash that took place in the early hours of this morning. 

Ambulance and police were called to the scene on Bothwell Road at  4.35am this morning. 

A Tweet from the roads department has warned motorists to expect the road to be closed off for the remainder of today.

It reads: "Road closure update: Bothwell Road will be closed from Bothwell Road roundabout (M74/Raith junction) towards Bothwell to Blairston Avenue for the rest of today due to an accident."

It is currently unknown if there are any injuries as a result of the crash. 

Police Scotland confirmed they have been liaising with Road Policing Officers following the "serious" collision.
