STAFF at a Govan-based business have pledged their support to the Glasgow Times Toy Bank appeal after donating to a local charity.

Turner Services workers have completed a drive in which 45 gifts to Glasgow’s Spirit of Christmas, a charity involved with the campaign, were handed over.

It comes just days after our paper bag to be used for donations was revealed on Friday and bosses have now urged others to get involved with the Toy Bank appeal.

David Black, head of operations and commercial at Turner Services, said: “On so many occasions the Glasgow Times speaks for the people of our city and we applaud how it is again leading the way - generously supported by so many enthusiastic readers.

“The Glasgow Times toy appeal demonstrates only too clearly that in Glasgow we never leave anyone behind and that we are always looking out for each other.

“I would encourage other city businesses and their kind-hearted staff to get on board and ensure that for so many kids, Christmas remains the most wonderful time of the year.”

Turner Services, which has called Govan home since opening in 1912, chose to support kids-in-need in their own area with their donation to Glasgow’s Spirit of Christmas.

Pauline Friel, Turners’ business support administrator, said: “It is particularly important that in a difficult year for so many people due to the health emergency that the spirit of Christmas is felt everywhere and especially here in Govan.”

Glasgow’s Spirit of Christmas is now operating in its seventh year and has supported children living in hardship or poverty across the city since 2013.

The charity said: “Imagine waking up as a child on Christmas Day to no toys, gifts or a hot meal. Every child deserves gifts on Christmas Day no matter what their circumstances are.
