Scores of residents at an Ibrox address have been evacuated from their homes after a tenement building was deemed unsafe.

Residents at eight properties on Copland Road have been left without their possessions as the premises could potentially be closed off for six months.

A resident has told the Glasgow Times that they only had 30 minutes to gather their possessions before they had to vacate the premises.

He said: "They only found out cause something was up with the roof then they checked the rest of the building and noticed the basement walls were buckling.

"Could be a lot worse though the council guy said the building could've collapsed at any minute.

"Can't get any of my stuff back for at least a year."

The Glasgow Times understand some residents have been put up in hotels for the time being.

The discovery was made as police busted a "cannabis cultivation" at the same address. Police forced entry to the address and retrieved a number of cannabis plants.

Work is currently underway to repair the building.

A Glasgow City Council spokesman said: "Officers from our Building Standards team were called to the property (198 Copland Road) on the afternoon of 30 November – due to the condition of various supporting walls it was deemed unsafe and the officers ordered it to be evacuated.

"As this action was ongoing over the course of the late afternoon/evening and there was no answer from some of the flats there, the officers asked for assistance from the police as the building could not be secured until they knew that everyone was evacuated.

"The building will now be subject to a dangerous building notice, which will be served on the owners."
