Police have hit out at youths and say travel bosses have threatened to suspend the 209 service, which runs from Bellshill to North Motherwell.

"Bus routes are a lifeline for some and a suspension would be devastating for the local community."

An SPT spokeswoman said: “SPT takes the safety of all bus passengers and drivers very seriously.  Mindless vandalism like this puts both passengers and drivers at risk and is totally unacceptable. Should this dangerous behaviour continue, we will have no choice but to suspend the service which is essential for many in the local community.”
