Students at a Glasgow university have spoken of shock and horror after a teenager was found injured close to their campus grounds in the early hours of this morning. 

An 18-year-old man was found injured close to Strathclyde University's student halls on Rottenrow at around 1.50am.

The teenager sadly died a short time later at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Police have since locked down a car park close to Collin's Street as a probe has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of the teenager.

Students residing in nearby halls have revealed they are "horrified" to hear of the incident, adding that the area is "normally very safe".

One student said: "I didn't know anything about this until around an hour ago.

"I live in the block right beside the flats so I must have been sound asleep. It's terrifying to hear something like this has happened so close to our student grounds.

"My flatmates and I are absolutely horrified".

Another said: "I'm so shocked to hear about this. The area is normally very safe and full of students, so I have no idea how or why this could have happened."

Meanwhile, another student told how he had heard the sirens in the early hours of the morning.

Glasgow Times:

He said: "I'm a light sleeper so I woke up to the noise of sirens this morning. I had no clue this was what had happened. It's so sad and also concerning at the same time."

Officers say they are currently treating the death as unexplained.
