THE city’s first activity space designed for disabled people is being planned for a North Glasgow community.
The Hawthorn Housing Co-operative in Possilpark is planning the space after a £10,000 gift from the Scottish Procurement Alliance.
The local co-op are committed to improving green space and community activities in the area.
Its director, Colin Turnbull, said: “One of our tenants has a son who uses a wheelchair, and she raised the issue with the action group about lack of disabled friendly play equipment. We have since learned from the Glasgow Disability Alliance that there is a real need for more accessible play equipment in Glasgow’s parks.”
An exact location has yet to be decided but the Hawthorn Co-op’s policy is to allow its members to decide where cash is spent in the community.
The group opened an outdoor community vegetable patch before the pandemic.
